Journal of Population Economics “Meet the Author” workshop series recap

Over the last years, the Journal of Population Economics has expanded its online activities to ensure that the Journal community can remain connected despite the many changes COVID-19 has brought to our lives. For example, several online events have highlighted the new insights generated by Journal contributors. In case you missed these events live, here’s a description of recent events and links to the reports/videos that you can watch at your leisure:

  • Meet the authors of Issue 35 (1 & 2): The event on April 25, 2022 featured 8 presentations from authors of recently published manuscripts covering topics such as elderly and youth (Does Social Participation Improve Cognitive Abilities of the Elderly? & Vocational training for unemployed youth in Latvia), children (Quantity and quality of childcare and children’s educational outcomes & Children and labor market outcomes: separating the effects of the first three children), COVID-19 (Optimal lockdown and social welfare & Do elections accelerate the COVID-19 pandemic?), and migration (How the earnings growth of US immigrants was underestimated & Wage distributions in origin societies and occupational choices of immigrant generations in the USA).   • Meet the authors of Issue 34 (4) & the winners of the 2022 Kuznets Prize: The event on December 6, 2021 highlighted recent contributions on the COVID-19 pandemic and the public policy response to it. In addition to a focus on the Kuznets Prize-winning paper (Working from home and income inequality: risks of a ‘new normal’ with COVID-19), 6 other papers related to COVID-19 were discussed (The impact of repeated mass antigen testing for COVID-19 on the prevalence of the disease; COVID-19: a crisis of the female self-employed; Local mortality estimates during the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy; Stay-at-home orders, social distancing, and trust; Coronagraben in Switzerland: culture and social distancing in times of COVID-19, and; The distributional consequences of social distancing on poverty and labour income inequality in Latin America and the Caribbean).   • Meet the authors of issue 34 (3): The JOPE Summer 2021 Event on May 27, 2021 highlighted the contributions of select manuscripts. See the Program & Video via the embedded links.
  • Meet the authors of issue 34 (2): The JOPE Winter 2021 Event on January 28, 2021 highlighted the contributions of select manuscripts. See the Program, Report & Video via the embedded links.
  • Meet the authors of issue 34 (1) & the Kuznets Prize 2021 winners: The JOPE Fall 2020 Event on November 19, 2020 highlighted the contributions of select manuscripts from the first issue of the 2021. It also featured a discussion of the Kuznets Prize-winning paper Impacts of social and economic factors on the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in China.
