Every year, the Journal of Population Economics reports on its yearly performance metrics in the Editor-in-Chief report. In this report, editor-in-chief Klaus Zimmermann reflects on publication trends in the past year. The 2019 report, which provides insight into the 2018 calendar year, highlights that the Journal has continued to attract a high flow of submissions. By the end of 2018, the Journal had received 567 original manuscripts from authors across the world. Nearly a quarter of new submissions came from authors in Asia and the Middle East, one-fifth from North America, 46% from Europe, and the remainder from other world regions, signalling the global reach of the Journal and its author base. With only 40 manuscripts published per year, the Journal remains competitive and selective–and indeed, only 7% of all submissions were eventually accepted for publication in 2018.
